Cubs Sweep Huge Four Game Series Against Central RivalThe Cubs finished their four game series Thursday with a sweep against the Brewers. The theme of the entire series goes back to a simple phrase that almost everyone heard all the way back in little league, “good pitching beats good hitting.” While the pitching was lights out in all four games of the series, the bigger story may have been the offense. After several weeks of struggling on offense, the Cubs may have finally hit their stride. The big three for the Cubs finally stepped up and made the offense much more consistent. Alfonso Soriano showed why he is so important to this offense, going 7-16 with two home runs in the series. If Soriano continues to impact the offense this much, he should get serious consideration for NL MVP.
Now, after sweeping the Brewers, the Cubs have a five game lead over both the Cardinals and Brewers. While this was a huge sweep for the Cubs, the race for the division will only look to get tougher. With both St. Louis and Milwaukee not backing down, none of the teams will be able to miss a beat. The Cubs play the Brewers one more time, September 26-28. This season ending series could decide which team makes the playoffs, and which team will have to sit out.
