Momentum Yanked Away from K.C.
The Royals flew into historic Yankee Stadium for the last time Friday, hoping to build their momentum before their homestand. Game one saw Gil Meche continue his blistering strikeout pace with 8 K’s in 6 innings. Gil Meche limited the Yankees to one run on six hits over six innings, and despite coughing up the lead Meche left with, the Royals hung on to beat New York in a dramatic ending. Esteban German scored the go-ahead run in the ninth frame on a wild pitch by Mariano Rivera and the Royals got a rare win off of Rivera, 4-3.
Game two was another one-run pitcher’s duel as Zack Greinke tossed 6 2/3 lights out frames vs. the Yanks, but two errors on the same play led to two runs in the seventh, costing him the win in a game the Royals lost in 13 long innings. Alex Gordon hit his 14th homer, but he also made the crucial miscue. Gordon appears to be swinging a better bat as of late, hoping to tap into his massive potential. The Yankees left 13 men on base, grounded into 4 double plays, and still eeked out the win.

The last game for the Kansas City Royals in historic Yankee Stadium did not turn out to be a memorable one for the boys in blue. Thanks to four homers, Mike Mussina tossed six solid frames for his 16th victory in a blowout over KC. The Yanks had 17 hits, with Derek Jeter going 4-for-4, Alex Rodriguez going 3-for-3 with five RBIs and Jason Giambi hitting a grand slam homer. Brian Bannister clearly didn't have it again, giving up 10 runs on 10 hits before getting knocked out in the second inning. This leaves many people to wonder: WHERE IS CARLOS ROSA?
